Could have been worse…

I posted yesterday that the Canes are having huge struggles with the fact that the flu is ravaging the locker room. Out of the gate, I could tell most of the team wasn’t even 75% tonight.

Cam Ward looked excellent in his return to the net after just getting to watch from the bench as the team was downed 5-1 yesterday. He made 36 saves, including some amazing split glove saves and just all out attacks from the Bruins tonight. After taking over 40 shots on goal with Thomas in net, you think the Canes would have the better end of the stick.

This was not the case. One deflection from Trevor Letowski and one high glove side beauty left the Canes down 2-0 with over a minute left. I watched as Lavi signaled for Cam to come over to the bench for the extra attacker and with a minute and three seconds Ladd sends a pass over Whitney who lets the puck rip past Thomas. 2-1. I don’t know how many of you out there have been to a game at the RBC center, but it really is an experience. Everyone was on their feet and although 1/3 of the building had left with 4 minutes left the sound was deafening. Life was given back to the Canes and Cole, just 20 seconds later, sends a wrister past Thomas to tie the game.

Skip to OT. The Canes had many good chances and the Bruins could not seem to get it going enough to get a good rush down to our end. Now I need to take a minute and call out Joe Corvo. He hasn’t been with us long at all, but I am disappointed that no one told him how TERRIBLE we are at the SO. 40 seconds or so left in the game and he skates around with the puck and you see him look up at the clock. A sign he is killing time. CLEARLY everyone else knows how bad our shootouts are and so everyone is yelling for him to just barrel down the ice at Thomas.

Sadly, we go to SO. Samsonov and Cullen both fail to score. And although Cam makes one save what’s his face and that other guy score for the Bruins.

A beauty of a game though.

And once again I would like to take this time to mock everyone who left the building with 4 minutes left. Obviously you don’t watch this team much (See: Leafs game in December) You don’t walk out on the team.

Oh and another obnoxious thing I must point out. We took 47 SOG this game. This time and last time we took 47 shots we lost. It is the most unlucky number ever. (See: John Grahame)

Seriously why in the hell do people leave early? What does 2 minutes early really accomplish? I don’t get it, but I love it when they miss things like tonight. What a finish.

I HATE that too Jonathan, at the Bell Centre, like, why bother paying the money just to “avoid traffic” and miss the ending?

Same for my Habs last night! :D

Oh I bet that was awesome! 5-0 deficit? So awesome dude.
And honestly I really doubt any of those people are avoiding traffic since 1/3 of the arena leaves with them. So lame. Plus I always need to see who the three stars of the game are. Like last night, Thomas was the 2nd star (and rightfully so with 45 saves) and he came out and saluted the crowd. Class guy. It’s not his fault our team was shooting directly at his chestpad. LOL
