Habs acquire Tanguay? [NO]

IS IT A DONE DEAL? MONTREAL ACQUIRES TANGUAY FROM FLAMES? STAY TUNED!

Multiple sources are claiming that the Montreal Canadiens have reportedly acquired winger Alex Tanguay from the Calgary Flames in exchange for impending UFA Michael Ryder and a draft choice, as had been reported by TSN’s Bob McKenzie earlier today.

The sources being The Score (sports television station), The TEAM 1040 in Vancouver, plus ex-Hab Murray Wilson from CJAD 800 in Montreal this morning hinted a big deal could go down today.

UPDATE: CBC also reports this deal (just a rumour, things some readers sent me in, didn’t hear it firsthand, so don’t flame me if it doesn’t happen, haha)

The deal is reportedly being submitted for NHL approval, so let’s keep holding our breath, as this is NOT a done deal, since the NHL hasn’t given the nod yet.

Tanguay has 11 goals and 35 assists for a total of 46 points in 60 games in Calgary this season and his annual salary of $5.1 million and a no trade clause as well.

More to come, analysis very shortly; I like this move for a variety of reasons and hope Bob’s next step, as McKenzie said on TSN this morning, is to net Hossa.

UPDATE 7:12 PM: Calgary has a game against the Stars in about an hour but the roster should be released within the next half hour.

UPDATE 7:20 PM: Still no word from any major media source.

UPDATE 7:22 PM: Silly me, add CBC to the list of the sources reporting this so far…

UPDATE 7:25 PM: Alex Tanguay is on the Flames roster for tonight’s game, meaning he likely hasn’t been dealt (or not yet) and all this made all of us including me go nuts…for nothing.
Maybe I’m wrong and maybe the Tanguay deal might be announced soon, but for now, mark this as a scary rumour folks.

UPDATED 7:28 PM: This all could turn out to be true, and maybe we’re just running in a circle here, nothing’s confirmed, all speculation, this has turned out to be a pretty muddy half hour.

UPDATED 7:38 PM: CKAC’s website, Habs French station in Montreal, is reporting via their website that the Habs have indeed resumed talking with the Flames about a trade for Tangs, so maybe this isn’t totally BS after all, in fact, the site suggests the trade COULD be Ryder+pick for Tanguay…Louis Jean from Sportsnet being the source.

As always,

How do you think Tanguay will fit in Montreal?

  • Jonathan said:

Good…with Koivu and Higgins or Kostitsyn

  • BBeR (Author) said:

If they acquired him, right now, I have absolutely no idea.

    He’s a playmaker, has 11 goals and 35 assists, that’s pretty telling.

I would IMAGINE, just imagining, if Bob can net Hossa like McKenzie says then Tangs-Koivu-Hossa could possibly be a line…haha, but this is just a fantasy now, nothing more. :-)

Ya it’s a dream because MTL gonna have to give so much for those players and now MTL going really good

  • danroy (Author) said:

    tangs-koivu-hossa would be absolutley sick.

What is Montreal to do now without the package of Ryder+Halak=2nd ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Madness, I say.

  • BBeR (Author) said:

Jonathan (1st time): problem is, all those guys are playmakers. ;-)

lol, danroy, like the pic? :D

  • danroy (Author) said:

Yeah, actually how’d you get that up there?

  • Jonathan said:

Yea I know, Thats why I would love to keep Ryder even if he have a bad season

  • BBeR (Author) said:

danroy: Jeff got it up there, he chooses the latest pic, unless you ask him to put a specific one.

Jonathan: if Ryder wakes up, maybe.

  • Jonathan said:

Ya but a player can a bad season one time …REMEMBER RIBEIRO!!!!

  • BBeR (Author) said:

    Of course I remember RIBEIRO!!
lol, except he would’ve never been so good here, plus he was lazy, and had a bad attitude, not Ryder’s case.

  • Jonathan said:

Anyway he has a no trade for the moment because TSN didnt talk about it and I think it’s pretty important before a game lol

haha, no kidding, seems the Flames are always on TSN’s on Wednesday nights too. :)
