Well that was interesting…
Hey Rangers fans.
Now as I’m sitting watching our Blueshirts pound the Habs for 30 minutes I’m thinking to myself, what a great time to join The Faceoff Circle as a writer, my first post will be about how we spanked the Habs! So then I went to go work out after the 2nd ended, and what did I come back to? A 5-5 game in Overtime with about 1:30 left on the clock. Yesh.
So I’m not even going to really write about the game. I was very happy with our play for the first 30 minutes, and the Habs played just as well or even BETTER than we did in the first half, so I’m going to give my top reasons why we shouldn’t be worried fellow Blueshirt fans. So without further adieu…
The top 10 reasons why not to worry about the collapse in Montreal:
-
They will never, ever, make this mistake again.
-
We are 6-2-2 in our last 10
-
We got a point on the road against arguably the East’s hottest team
-
10 Days ago we we’re out of the playoffs
-
We took 7 out of 9 possible points in our season series v. Montreal
-
We have a 4 day break, our last long break was 6 days when we came out flying v. Buffalo
-
We are going to spank the Sabres, Panthers, and Hurricanes
-
We have the best record against our Atlantic rivals, and guess what, starting March 2nd we play 15 league games to finish off the season, 12 in a row starting March 18th
-
Pens are gonna choke, Isles are toasted with injuries, and Marty has shown he can be beat nowadays.
So there ya have it. I’m an optimistic Rangers fan. The perception among other fans is that Rangers fans are bi-polar, which is probably right. Go check out the HFBoards Rangers forum, they are calling for Lundqvist’s head, which is ridiculous. Plus, the game is over, nothing can be changed now. Those of you who read this will be seeing a lot more posts from me as this is my first one. Most will cover the Ranger games, and I’ll chip in my opinions, along with my interest of how the NHL is doing (such as marketing, NHL v. NBA, etc…). So I hope you enjoy my stuff and feel free to comment.

Usually come March the Devils figure out the Rangers though. But I have seen the sky is falling attitude all night and more on Ranger boards everywhere. I do feel Renney is not the best fit for New York but he needs to go after the season not now. Got a question for ya…did Renney ever call a timeout? Just curious.
Yea he did Chris. I have it in my game notes. He used it right after Montreal scored their second goal.
Haha, nice Rob, great to have you aboard.
I must admit, you guys killed us for the first 30 minutes, like you said, but then we just turned it around and miraculously tied the game.
Anyway, it must’ve sucked, but it’s just one game.
There is no question Renney has played an enormous part in rescuing the organization form the nearly decade-long abyss. He instilled the kind of roster-wide accountability that had been missing for quite some time, and he got everyone on the team (including Jagr) to buy into a defense-first system.
Some of the in-game decisions he makes are a little maddening. Like, having Betts take the offensive-zone faceoff at the end of the game, instead of Drury and not having Dawes and Dubinsky in the shootout, rather than Jagr and Drury. But, overall, I’m pleased with the job he’s done.
If someone would have told me three years ago, the team would have made the playoffs the first two years after the lockout, I would have been willing to throw a parade. I understand fans are frustrated that the team should be playing better than it has this year, but I think too many have lost their perspective and forget just how far the organization has come in the short time since the lockout.
Plus, the Rangers have developed more young players on his watch than they had in the previous 15 years. So, I give Renney a ton of credit for foundation he has built.
The question I have about Renney is whether he has the ability to go beyond building a foundation? Is he a coach who can close the deal? Or, is this going to be like the early 90’s, when the late-Roger Neilsen helped bring the Rangers back to prominence, but the team needed Iron Mike Keenan to push them across the finish line?
The thing is, I don’t think we’ve reached a point yet where we have enough information to answer those questions. And, as much as this my irk many Ranger fans, we may not be able to answer them until next season.
I agree Norm. I would almost rather see Sather behind the bench and Renney on the phones.
