More breathing room in the SE
Tonight was very, VERY important for the Canes. A win tonight meant that we negated the Capitals’ games in hand. Even if they win all those games in hand, the Canes still take the SE. The work isn’t over, since we have 17 games left and must continue to work hard and win but it is nice to have some room to breathe.
I must say it is very unnerving when you arrive to your arena and look around and there is an overwhelming number of Capitals (Ovechkin) jerseys. Then while watching warm-ups, you look to the other side and there are a couple hundred Caps fans against the glass watching their team. Right after warm-ups I headed straight for the table that had thundersticks on it for people to take. “I think I am going to need these.”
Bam bam sticks in hand the team comes out and we end up giving up the first goal of the game (again). Then, we get a PP and WE SCORE ON IT! This is a big deal when you are not Montreal and your PP is pretty Amish (no power, get it?) Scoring goes back and forth throughout the game. 4-3 Canes going in to the 3rd can be a pretty scary thing. We have scored more 3rd period goals than any other team in the NHL but could we really keep AO from scoring the entire game?
But yes, yes we could. In the 3rd I got to see Ladd score a goal and then Corvo score his first goal as a Hurricane, which is so exciting.
4 Powerplay goals. 4. Awesome! And everyone insisted the SENS were getting the better end of the trade. Corvo is a powerplay machine. And the Canes have taken over 40 shots on goal in 3 straight games now which I find impressive. If you shoot, the puck shall go in.
That is all.
