The Rumour Sheet [UPDATE: 4:40 PM]
Lots of rumours swirling around the NHL this morning and late last night; I’m going to compile them all, player-by-player, in this one big post and will continue updating as the day goes on so you don’t need to run around everywhere to look.
This list of sources can be found in the post-script [EVERYTHING here is transcribed from the various newspaper articles I read]
UPDATE: Alex Tanguay, Brad Richards & Dan Boyle.
Dan Boyle
-San Jose, the Rangers and Montreal are in the hunt, and they expect him to be traded to the Sharks. HS/TST/TSU
-Progress continues in an effort to keep Boyle in Tampa, however, ownership wants him traded. TSN/TAT/SPT
-The Rangers are interested in him not just as a rental player, as GM Glen Sather has tried to earn the right to negotiate with Boyle and his agent. NYP
- UPDATE: Boyle, at a charity goal tournament today with Brad Richards, said neither has been asked to waive their clauses. TAT
Brian Campbell
-If Campbell walks to free-agency, he will command over $6 million per season. HS/TST/TSU
-San Jose, New York Rangers, New Jersey, Detroit are all interested. HS/TST/TSU
-Campbell is optimistic he will still be a Sabre after the deadline, and as for his contract status, he gave the “we’ll see” answer. BN
-Ottawa is interested. OTS
Mike Comrie
-Comrie wants to stay in New York and GM Garth Snow is working hard to re-sign him. EDJ
-He rejected a recent contract offer and might be traded on Tuesday. OTS
Adam Foote
-New Jersey, San Jose and Ottawa are all interested in the veteran. HS/TST/TSU
-Negotiations on a contract extension are ongoing between Jackets GM Scott Howson and Adam Foote; he is seeking a 2-year deal worth between $3 and $4 million per.
Howson is still considering waiting past the deadline to work out a deal with Foote. CD
Marian Hossa
-Don Waddell wants actual players and not just draft choices for Hossa (understandable, since he still wants to take a run at the playoffs). A number of players Waddell was looking at in Montreal’s system could be part of the deal (he was in Toronto scouting the Hamilton Bulldogs in a game last night).
Kyle Chipchura, Mikhail Grabovski, Pavel Valentenko; Mathieu Carle; Ryan O’Byrne; Sergei Kostitsyn or Andrei Kostitsyn could be in the mix. No goalies will be involved (understandable as well, they already got their franchise goalie in Kari Lehtonen and a future potential star in former QMJHL standout Ondrej Pavelec). HS/TST/TSU
-Montreal, Anaheim and Detroit are 3 suitors that will pursue Hossa on Deadline Day, and they expect him to be traded to Habs. HS/TST/TSU
-Montreal and Ottawa are the leading candidates for him. TSN/990
-Boston could also be in the hunt for Hossa (if not tomorrow, in July), as B’s GM Peter Chiarelli used to be John Muckler’s right hand man in Ottawa, so he has already had dealings with Hossa and his agent. EDJ
-Habs GM Bob Gainey might not need assurance to acquire Marian Hossa that he wouldn’t just be a rental.
Gainey said they know how to deal with the situation as they did a few seasons ago with Alex Kovalev (signed him to a 4-year deal in July). He also said that, among the possible players included in a trade, could be “younger player in Hamilton” or “players whose rights are held by the Canadiens”. MG
-Once again, Montreal and Ottawa have both made strong offers to Hossa per “an NHL executive” and that the asking price, for Ottawa, would be winger Antoine Vermette, a top-tier prospect (like Brian Lee, Nick Foligno) and their first round pick. OTS
Barret Jackman & Bryce Salvador
-Both are being coveted by the Devils. RNJD
-Jackman’s price was found too high by the Rangers, who inquired about him. NYP
-Both may have played their last games as Blues, seeing as Saint Louis has gone 0-2-1 in their past 3 games. SLPD
-The Devils are interested. NYP
Jaromir Jagr
-He isn’t going anywhere, and in fact, the Rangers are trying to renegotiate a contract with him. NYP/ND
Olli Jokinen
-The suitors for Jokinen are reportedly down to 4 teams: Dallas, Montreal, Minnesota and Calgary.
The Wild have long been interested in him. HS/TST/TSU
-Speaking of the Wild, impending RFA Pierre Marc Bouchard, seeking a huge raise, could potentially be shipped to the Panthers for Jokinen. EDJ
Bryan McCabe
-The Leafs defenceman would be willing to waive his No Movement Clause if the potential trade offered to him is in his best interest.
Teams interested are Philadelphia, the Rangers and Islanders. NP
-Philadelphia is definitely interested, but, because of injuries, Paul Holmgren might not have much to work with in a possible deal.SJCP
-A potential deal to the Islanders would interest McCabe, although, for it to happen, Garth Snow may have to force Leafs GM Cliff Fletcher to throw in a 1st round draft choice as well. ND
Brad Richards
-Nothing new to report on his trade clause, however, that could change by Monday afternoon. TAT
-The Canucks, the Stars, the Flyers and the Jackets are all in the race for Brad Richards.
Dallas has offered, apparently, a large package centered around goalie Mike Smith.
Vancouver has offered some blue chip prospects.
Columbus has offered three roster players.
Philadelphia’s offer is centered around Jeff Carter. TSN
-It’s likely his clause will be waived and it could be the most significant trade of the frenzy. TSN
-Stars co-GM Les Jackson has admitted to interest in Richards, but denies the TSN’s report on their offer to the Lightning. FWST
-Richards has accepted the Lightning’s offer to submit him with a list of teams he could be dealt too; he reportedly wants to play for a playoff contender. SPN
-A Richards for Nikolai Khabibulin swap has been discussed
Alex Tanguay
-Possible deal with the Rangers could look like this:
Martin Straka, Marek Malik and prospect Artem Anisimov heading to the Flames for Tanguay. NP
-Montreal and Pittsburgh are the front-runners for Tanguay, and they expect him to also be traded to Montreal. HS/TST/TSU
-He has asked for a trade on two occasions this year and isn’t happy in Calgary.
The Flames would be seeking a significant player in return, not just the rumoured Habs Michael Ryder, but possibly Olli Jokinen or Robert Lang. TSN
UPDATE: TSN reports that Flames GM Darryl Sutter has no plans to move Tanguay.
Edmonton’s 1st round pick held by Anaheim
-This pick, surely to be Top 10 if not Top 5 in this year’s draft, is attracting interest around the NHL and could be Brian Burke’s bargaining chip to acquire a rental.
-Toronto, Los Angeles, Columbus, Phoenix and even Edmonton are all in the hunt. HS/TST/TSU
