Hey, how you doin’? Part 1

A total of 24 trades went down on Tuesday, the fourth most active trade deadline in NHL history.
Here are a few updates on Steve Bernier and Marian Hossa; will follow with Cristobal Huet and Brian Campbell tomorrow, then with Brad Richards and Adam Foote.

Steve Bernier — Buffalo Sabres (from San Jose Sharks)
Bernier had 2 goals, 1 assist and was +3 in his debut with the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday, in an 8-4 romping of the Nashville Predators. He was named first star of the game.
Quick quote: I had never been to Buffalo before. I knew it was close to Niagara Falls. I knew it was on the water, and I knew about football and hockey. I knew the basics. It’s a big city. I didn’t think it would be that big. I know the fans are unbelievable. I didn’t know that, too, because I never played here before. I’m impressed.
Quick hit: Bernier is an RFA at the end of the season. The Quebec native had 23 points with the Sharks before being traded.

Marian Hossa — Pittsburgh Penguins (from Atlanta Thrashers)
The prized player of the trading frenzy played a grand total of 10 minutes and 13 seconds before colliding knee-on-knee with Bruins forward Glen Murray in the second period of his debut in a game versus Boston (a 5-1 loss)
Quick quote: It is disappointing. But unfortunately this is the business we are in and injuries happen. It’s just tough luck.
Quick hit: The Penguins gave up good young forwards Erik Christensen and Colby Armstrong, prospect Angelo Esposito plus a 1st round pick for a whole month and a half of Marian Hossa, and potentially worse, a whole 10 minutes and 13 seconds of Marian Hossa.

More to come tomorrow.
