Ty Conklin … back to earth? [UPDATED]

Ottawa is playing the Penguins right now, and Ty Conklin is back in net despite giving up 3 goals on 13 shots in 22 minutes of play against the Bruins a few nights ago and he isn’t doing any better, as the Senators are leading 5-3 over him and his team heading into the 3rd period.

5 goals on 24 shots…ouch, is it possible that the comeback story of the year might’ve come back down to reality, seeing Marc-Andre Fleury is back from injury and pushing him now?

Conklin has a league leading .930 save percentage and a 2.23 GAA, to go along with 17 wins in this sensational tenure, although, one could wonder if this is marking the end of his streak and confirming what many, including myself, have though all along, that he’s just a flash in the plan.

We’ll see, I’m not ready to mark him like that yet…an interesting note: both the Pens and Capitals are carrying 3 goaltenders for the time being; Washington giving Cristobal Huet the reigns (and he shutout the Devils last night), veteran Olie Kolzig and seasoned backup Brent Johnson in the pressbox…meanwhile, Michel Therrien has former first overall pick Marc Andre Fleury on the bench behind Ty Conklin and Dany Sabourin up in the stands.

Both are likely to make the playoffs, if Washington can overcome a 3 point deficit to take over their division in the Southeast from Carolina, while Pittsburgh is vying to take over the top spot in the Atlantic.

The Habs are hosting the Devils, who hold a one point lead over them in the Eastern Conference, and a win for Montreal could push them to the #1 seed in the Conference (who woulda thought, all these so called “experts” projecting a disastrous season from them.)

I’ll get my newbie post part 2 in later on, as well as a pic of my new Cristobal Huet jersey. :)

EDIT: -Ottawa beat the Pens 5-4; Conklin allowed 5 goals on 30 shots and Bryan Murray gets his first win of the season as head coach.
-GO HABS GO! Montreal is #1 in the Eastern Conference, squeaking a 2-1 win over the New Jersey Devils, who have lost 2 in as many nights and scored only 1 goal in the process.
